Replacing Lost Teeth - Dentist in Calgary AB - Calgary Dentist

A tooth can be lost for a variety of reasons, however sometimes that reason isn’t intentional. Whatever the reason your tooth is gone, you may want to consider substituting it. If you do so, you will want to be sure you are aware of the risks involved in the procedure. At Westhills Dental Centre in Calgary, our team will be more than happy to work with you to ensure you receive the desired treatment for your oral health.

Implant restorations

An implant restoration is a device which is embedded into the jawline and works to substitute the root of a missing tooth. The purpose of this is to place a suitable anchor for an upcoming fixture such as a dental crown, dental bridge, or upcoming dentures. However, it is important to note that the procedure itself involves surgically implanting the device into the jawline, so there will be a healing process required to monitor the patient’s health and reduce the risk of complications. Not every patient is a suitable candidate for implant restorations so be sure to discuss your options with a dental professional.

Crowns

A dental crown is a type of dental restoration which is designed to substitute the entire exterior of a tooth. They can commonly be added into a patient’s mouth through two methods, either by using a dental implant, or by covering the exterior of an existing tooth. The method of anchoring it to an implant contains the concerns applicable with using any sort  of procedure involving a dental implant. Using an existing tooth also requires the reduction of the tooth’s exterior to accommodate the crown. Either method may involve reducing the exterior of neighboring teeth in order to better accommodate the crown and reduce the risk of misalignment.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a type of dental fixture which is designed to span multiple teeth in a row, anchoring itself for stability. Dental bridges are often stabilized through the use of dental implants or a method similar to a dental crown. Either method contains additional factors, so it is important to discuss these procedures with a dental professional in order to make sure you are aware of the entire procedure before making your decision. Like crowns, dental bridges in a variety of materials depending on your situation and personal preference.
